One of the starting points for Keith Thompson's current work was the Visual Human Project on the internet where a convict on death row in America collaborated with medical researches to produce extraordinary scientific study of the human body. After his execution the prisoners body was frozen and wafer thin slices were cut, from head to toe, which when photographed and animated show a unique journey through his physique. Thompson's work draws its inspiration from these images and also from the technical/mathematical approach to the human body found in the work of Renaissance painter Pierro della Francesca.

Thompson's approach to the human form is to mirror these two projects by firstly drawing mathematical models then printing cross-sections of this form on to sheets of glass. By layering these sheets the form is created (or animated) with the glass; becoming both an object within a space and a space within an object.

Keith Thompson is an Edinburgh based artist who has previously exhibited at the Collective Gallery, Edinburgh and the Civil Centre Can Felipa, Barcelona.
